Mini Journals, DIY, Video!

Wednesday, June 5, 2013

Today, I have a really fun video to share with you all! I mentioned about a week or two ago that I’d be making a video showing how I made my mini journals using the Pink Lemonade Collection Kit in better detail—and it’s been uploaded over at the Lawn Fawn Youtube page, and Blog. I love making things on video now; namely, because you can see exactly how I make my projects from start to finish and you can also see what tools I’m using. If you have any requests’ to see any of my projects on film, let me know and I’d be happy to make a quick video. Thanks for stoppin’ by and don’t forget to leave me a comment below if you have any video requests’.

Card Making 101--Chapter 2, Card Base

Monday, March 4, 2013

Hello! Welcome back to class, hehe. Today I’m going to be talking about creating a card base out of 8 ½” x 11” cardstock. Today I’m using a cream colored cardstock, by Recollections but feel free to use any paper or cardstock that you like; or, prefer—just make sure it’s the same size that I’m working with. We’re going to be using this paper to create what’s called an ‘A2 standard size’ card which measures at: 4 ¼” x 5 ½”. What’s so great about using the 8 ½” x 11” cardstock is that you can get two perfectly sized A2 cards out of one sheet of paper; and, you can create a tent style card or a book style card as well. If I’m losing you already feel free to scroll down while I explain more.
In the picture above, I have the ‘tent’ style A2 size card which opens from the bottom, and I have the ‘book’ style card on the right that opens from the right.
Here is a picture of the paper I’m using, I purchased this from Michaels, but feel free to use any type of paper or cardstock you can find. Even using computer paper works—it’s the same size as this card stock, shown in the image above.
First I’m cutting a A2 tent style card; therefore, I’m laying the longest part of the card, vertically—with the paper trimmer.
Next, using the paper trimmer, measure 4 ¼” and cut. This will give you two 4 ¼” x 11” pieces, shown in the image below.
Next, you simply fold the card in half, creating a 4 ¼” x 5 ½” card base. Example of finished result shown below.
A2 Book
Yay! Now we can move on to the A2 book style card. We start by laying the longest part of the card, horizontally.
Next, using the paper trimmer, measure 5 ½” and cut. This will give you two 5 ½” x 8 ½” pieces, as shown in the image below.
Next, you simply fold the card in half, creating a 4 ¼” x 5 ½” card base.
There you have it! Two different style A2 size cards—now that the boring stuff is over we can finally start playing with our stamps and pattern paper, but that’ll have to wait until next Monday. I hope you’re enjoying this series as much as I am. I hope that this is helping someone is wants to learn the very basic skills for cardmaking. Thanks for stoppin' by :-p

Scrapbook Expo 2012, Ontario, CA

Monday, October 15, 2012

Oh. My. Gosh! Yes, I went to the Scrapbook Expo! I'm still so happy that I was able to go and spend a moderate amount of money but still come home with bags full of stuff. The Scrapbook Expo is something that all scrapbookers, and card-makers alike wait for all year. This was actually my first time attending--and I will definitely be going every single year from now on. There's nothing better than being in an environment where everyone has the same passion for paper, stamps, ribbon, and washi-tape. It was so funny because as soon as the doors opened for the expo you can hear screams and gasps' of excitement. I attended the Friday, early bird, opening--which means I get first dibs on everything out on the show room floor. I met up with my favorite crafty friend and she showed me were all the deals were. We were like kids in a candy store! Below I'm going to some pictures I took while I was there; and, I also have a video all the way at the bottom of this post showing off my haul. Unfortunately my camera decided to take a nap in the middle of filming so I didn't get to share everything I got. I'm thinking of making a part 2 so that I can show everything else I got. So stay tuned!

Don't forget to check out my first video haul showing some of the stuff I purchased at the show! + you can watch it in HD too :-D

Update: Here are some of the things I didn't get to film:

Card of the Week—Baby Shower Invitation

Wednesday, September 12, 2012

Today I wanted to share my newest design—my baby shower invitation. I’ve been getting lots of emails from women, via Etsy, asking for the large single sheet invitations. I’ve always felt that the digital invitations were a little bit impersonal but after making this I’ve completely changed my mind about them. I still put my all into making these and the final product makes me all excited inside.

I designed every single part of this invitation from the banner, the chevron background, the blue panels, and the arrangement of the party details. Then I added my personal touch with the baby blue satin ribbon. Once they were printed out I felt it still needed something else and I tried adding stamps, a monogram, and the ribbon—and the ribbon was perfect! Next I used a thick pearl cardstock to add a border and I also used it to hide the back of the ribbon in order to give it a flawless finish. I couldn’t be happier with these invitations I've created on my PC. I think this is definitely the start of something new for me and I couldn't be more excited.
I've also created these in different colors; however, I’m going to test the first one on my website to see how it sells and if it does well I’m going to upload the other colors as too. Here are the digital images of the other colors I’ll have available soon (minus the water marks).
I’m so excited to venture into the world of digital art (I never thought I’d say that) and I’m planning on taking some classes to perfect my knowledge of Adobe Photoshop and Illustrator—I can’t wait!

Card of the Week #6

Wednesday, August 29, 2012

Today is one of my favorite posts’ days. Sometimes I get so busy that I don’t have time to do anything other than finish orders, and create new items for my website. So, I created this ‘Card of the week’ series so that I can take a break from my business and simply create for the fun of it—and to keep my sanity. For some reason making cards makes me feel incredibly calm; and, I guess that’s why I love papercrafting as much as I do.

I made this card using the NEW Lawn Fawn stamp set ‘SweetChristmas’. It’s so cute! And it’s easy to use. There are so many possibilities with this set that sometimes I just stare at it and imagine all the things I can make with them. Now here’s how I made the card:

Thanks for stopping by to check out another ‘Card of the Week’. Happy crafting!

Card of the week #4

Wednesday, August 15, 2012

This is actually the first Halloween card I’ve ever made; and, at first I didn’t think I’d have any fun making this one—but I actually did. I pulled out this Halloween themed paper stack I had collecting dust in the back of my craft closet and thought, “Hey, I should do something with this”. Haha. I’m glad I did too because I had fun using all the different papers to make this spooky little card. I like how the ghosts’ are super happy and lovin’ afterlife.

Just for fun, I’ll show you a few pictures of the disassembled card and tools I used so you get an idea of how I put it together.

Doesn't it look like it was fun to make? I want to keep working with this Halloween paper stack and some left over treat bags I have, to try and create a really fun D.I.Y. project for y’all. So stay tuned for that! Also, I don’t know if you noticed by I actually used my heat gun and embossing tools. Around two months ago I had a post about my new crafting tools; and, the embossing powder, versamark pad, and heat gun were some of the new toys I add to my crafting collection—and I was supposed to create something new with it and I finally did! The ‘Boo!’ sentiment was created with the ‘snow white’ embossing powder and I love it, it came out so great against the black card stock.

Well, Halloween is nearing and I can’t wait to see what else I come up with for all upcoming spooky parties but most of all I can’t wait to see what all the other wonderfully creative crafters are going to come up with this year too!
