It Moose be Love

Wednesday, August 27, 2014

This card is yet another example of just how versatile Lawn Fawn stamps are. I used a Christmas theme set, Critters in the Arctic, to create this lovey-dovey card for my boyfriend (I hope he doesn't see this before I give it to him, hehe). I also used the new, Lawn Fawndamentals notecards—in walnut, to create this mini card; and, it couldn't be more perfect. These new cards sold by Lawn Fawn make card making that much easier. For the white panel I used the 4” x 2.75” die from the new LF die set, small stitched rectangle stackables and I seriously love these! It’s like—no more measuring and fussing—just die cut and you have a perfect panel with a cute stitched detail.
I also used some of the Pretty Pink Posh sequins in, Sand, for this card and I felt that this color matched perfectly with the brown tones I was using for this card. If you noticed in the image below this stamp set has many holiday accents in it, for instance, it has the variety of snow flakes, and a snow bunny with a cute little scarf, but you can see and imagine how you could also use these critters in so many other ways, too. I just love that!
With the Lawn Ornaments I like how you can use the flair to embellish your project and it adds so much charm; and, to make things even more easier for us busy crafters LF has also came out with the coordinating die set for, Critters in the Arctic.
I hope you are super excited for this amazing release! Lawn Fawn has really blown us all away with all of the awesomeness that is due to be released for sale this month on the 28th!

My First 5x7 Greeting Card

Friday, December 6, 2013

I've made a few 5x7 invitations but I've never actually made a greeting card before, and while I was sitting at my desk I was thinking of trying something new. I've made the circle card, 3x3 cards—but never the 5x7. So, I thought today would be a perfect time to try it. I used my trusty Lawn Fawn stamps for this card (of course, hehe). It’s so easy to make an adorable card with their stamps.
Right now I’m noticing that snowy blue skies are popular in the papercrafting world—and I am pretty obsessed with it as well. I love using my distress inks to create such beautiful skies, like I did with this greeting card. I don’t have that many distress inks right now, but with only two shades of blue I was able to create a sky background that looks as though the sun is setting—or at least I hope I pulled it off to look that way, haha.
Since I was working with a much larger space then I’m used to I decided to create a little scene using some of the critters from the set, Critters in the snow. I added in the gnome from, gnome sweet gnome, and I also used the tree from the set, critters in the forest. The little, ‘To: Santa’, card is from the set, cozy Christmas; and, the Santa hats are from the set, hats off to you. I used my Copic markers to color everything in, and I’ve been watching lots of Youtube videos to learn blending techniques—and I think I’m getting better and better each time.

I actually really like holding a big card like this one, in my hands. It felt heavy and as though I was holding something truly precious because it was handmade. Have a fun and crafty weekend!

Handmade Stocking Stuffer

Tuesday, December 4, 2012

Stocking stuffers tend to become an afterthought as I put most of my time and energy into thinking of how I’m going to decorate for Christmas in a new way, decide what gifts to buy my loved ones, and what outfit I’m going to wear. But this year I wanted to make a stocking stuffer that had a lot of thought and effort put into it and I came up with these mini note cards that can be placed into a festive tin box and used year round.
Holiday themed tins come in a wide variety of sizes and designs at our local craft stores like Michaels and Joanns. I found this particular owl tin at my Joanns; and, I was pleasantly surprised to see that their selection of Christmas merchandise was already 50% off. I think it’s super cool that tin boxes never really go out of style, and as time goes on the tin designs get cuter and cuter. Larger tin boxes can also be used for storing handmade stationary too. I can imagine a larger tin holding handmade note cards, envelope seals and tags, all separated by handmade partitions.

Lawn Fawn, You've Got Mail
Every time I’m thinking of making whimsical paper art I always turn to my growing stash of Lawn Fawn stamps. For this project I’m using my newest set, ‘You’ve got mail’, and my Miss Caroline set by, My Mind’s Eye.

I started by cutting a piece of ivory card stock at 3” x 4 ½” and I rounded off the corners using my corner rounder punch—this way it’ll fit perfectly into the tin. Next I used the doily stamp from my Miss Caroline set, and used a pale pink chalk ink to add some cute boarders to the top and bottom of the note card. Next use my mini flag banner stamp all the way at the top of the card for extra added cuteness, hehe.  Next I whipped out my Lawn Fawn stamps and used my, Love ‘n Breakfast, set to create the floating hearts behind the mail box and colored them in with pink stamp markers—stamp markers work so well and they don’t bleed into the paper leaving a shadow behind the paper. After doing that I used the ‘sending love your way’ sentiment and also used the postage stamp in light blue and light green over the text.
Once that was finished I took the mail box and stamped that image onto a piece of blue and white patterned paper, and stamp the envelope image onto a piece of white card stock. Next I cut out the mail box and adhered it to the mini note card using my clear Tombo Mono liquid glue. After that I cut out the small envelope and cut the corner of the bottom left side off. That way I could glue it to the mail box and have it look like it’s on its way into the mail box. When I was completely finished I placed all the mini note cards into the tin and wrapped it up in a glassine envelope, bakers twine, and a handmade snowflake seal.

Make your stocking stuffers special this year and make them yourself! These mini note cards are perfect for everyone and anyone— simply create a note card that fits the recipients personality using a computer, stamps, or even hand drawings. The possibilities are endless. Cheers to making it yourself!
