DIY—Wooden Bead Necklace with Ombre Hemp Twine

Friday, April 12, 2013

Today I have a really fun DIY project that’s super cute and o’ so affordable. I’m making a really cute Spring/Summer inspired necklace using some of the Lawn Fawn’s ombre trimmings. Their twine is, of course, made with great quality but the fact that it was created with an ombre effect means that it’s right on trend with todays’ fashions. Here’s how I did it:

Tools:
-Lawn Fawn OmbreTrimmings
-Martha Stewart, Metallic Gold craft paint
-Michaels, Wooden Beads
-Washi tape (or any other low tack tape)
-Paint brush
-Scissors
Step 1: Pour a little bit of paint into a dish.
Step 2: Wrap some washi tape around the middle of the wooden beads.
Step 3: Apply paint, and add a second coat if needed.
Step 4: While the beads are drying, cut your twine to your desired length.
Step 5: Once the beads are dry, slide them onto your twine and tie a few knots on each end.
Finished! I added two knots to each side of the left and right beads—because I am by no means a jewelry maker and I plan on just tying my necklace around my neck when I’m going to wear it; and, the knots on each end will prevent the beads from falling off and rolling away when I'm removing it, haha. I think this necklace is so cute with all of its bright colors—this would definitely be something fun to do for a ladies crafternoon or even a bridal shower. Now, I’m thinking of trying these in more colors actually, and giving them away as gifts. I can even make handmade boxes to give them out in. Wouldn't that be cute?

Blog GIVEAWAY sponsored by Bridal Accessories Designer, Lisa Dew

Monday, July 9, 2012

Hi everyone! I hope you’re all having a happy and productive Monday. Today I have a gift for you—a GIVEAWAY! Today’s giveaway is sponsored by an amazing designer, Lisa Dew, and is the proud owner of The Honey Dew shop. Lisa designs wonderful bridal head pieces and even creates pieces using vintage jewelry. She’s is going to be giving away this beautiful headpiece.

Before I provide you with the details on how you can win this lovely bridal piece, I’ll share a little bit about Lisa with you. She lives in Tampa, Florida and has a background filled with art and love for designing. She attended B.G.S.U., with a degree in interior design; and even taught Art History, drawing, and painting at a classical private school for a number of years. She is the proud mother of two adult children that play a major role in the character of her shop. Lisa’s oldest daughter lives in Harlem, NYC and is an upper Eastside nanny of a young girl named, Hannah, who has profound Autism. Hannah’s teachers gave Hannah a cute nickname, Honey Dew, and that is how Lisa’s shop got its name. Lisa’s daughter Meg was a competitive international level Irish dancer, and soon became the go-to mom when all the girls needed costume repairs. Shortly thereafter Lisa began to style the dancers from head to toe. Once word spread about Lisa’s designs, she was on high demand by some of the top Irish dancers and had to create custom pieces to fit the style and personality of each girl. Lisa is grateful of the 8 years she spent working with these dancers because it provided her with the ability to design a custom look that can fit the individuality of any woman—she can even attach thousands of crystals onto a dress with a snap of a finger!

Shhhh! Borrowing Your Sisters’ Necklace and Making it Your Own—For the Day

Monday, February 27, 2012

My sisters are always nagging me about borrowing their stuff—most of the time without asking. Sometimes they never even realize I’ve taking their wonderful accessories and turned them into something different to fit my style. Take this cute gold and cream braided necklace (it’s probably not real gold). I love the look, and I love the color combinations; but I can’t get over how it looks like a choker when I wear it—and I’ve never been a fan of chokers. They look weird on me. So, I decided to extend it a bit using some of things I had laying around my craft table:
-Ribbon
-Removable Rings
-Scissors
Check out how I did it! Here is the starting point:
Now, simply open up the rings (You can find these at your local craft store)
Then simply attached the rings to the ends of the necklace, like so:
Slip your ribbon through the rings and tie knots (at the length you prefer):

Then simply tie the ends of the ribbon together creating a neat looking bow:
Then you’re done! Check out this new and improved necklace!

After I fixed up this necklace I went back to my sisters’ room to shop for some more borrowed goods, and came back with some matching pieces! Hahahaha—she’ll never know—because she never reads my blog. Also, the great thing about using removable rings is you can take them off when you’re done with the necklace and put it back in your sisters’ jewelry box without her even knowing! ;)
